Got the new P3P!
Cut, not really for spoilers, just discussion of game mechanics and new stuff.
I was really, really excited about getting this, but upon turning it on I was pretty bummed by the fact that the anime cutscenes have been altered into stills, and you no longer have an avatar. Instead you get character art during cutscenes, and a cursor when you're moving around town. This is if you choose the female main character--I imagine the game is like the PS2 version if you choose the male. And I haven't been to Tarturus yet, so maybe you get a avatar there?
I guess I shouldn't be surprised--they would have had to go through and re-code the entire game to put in the female avatar, and that wouldn't really make any sort of marketing sense, since this is their third release of the game, but still. Awww. It's still fun, of course, and I'm still gonna play it, but it's sort of jarring after playing FES.
On the other hand, Junpei still calls you 'man' and 'bro', and doesn't act all that differently toward you if you're a girl. And Yukari lets him know that she's sick of everyone always spreading rumors whenever anyone sees her coming to school with a girl, okay? I already want Yukari/MC fic.
So yeah, I'm a little disappointed, but it'll still be a good time. I recommend it to anyone who loves the franchise, but maybe not to people who haven't played Persona 3 in it's orginal form.
ETA: The lovely
lassasrina has informed me they cut the animated cutscenes from both male and female protags. I stand corrected. So yeah--def play it on the PS2 if you can and haven't already. It really adds to the game.
