Got the new P3P!
Cut, not really for spoilers, just discussion of game mechanics and new stuff.
I was really, really excited about getting this, but upon turning it on I was pretty bummed by the fact that the anime cutscenes have been altered into stills, and you no longer have an avatar. Instead you get character art during cutscenes, and a cursor when you're moving around town. This is if you choose the female main character--I imagine the game is like the PS2 version if you choose the male. And I haven't been to Tarturus yet, so maybe you get a avatar there?
I guess I shouldn't be surprised--they would have had to go through and re-code the entire game to put in the female avatar, and that wouldn't really make any sort of marketing sense, since this is their third release of the game, but still. Awww. It's still fun, of course, and I'm still gonna play it, but it's sort of jarring after playing FES.
On the other hand, Junpei still calls you 'man' and 'bro', and doesn't act all that differently toward you if you're a girl. And Yukari lets him know that she's sick of everyone always spreading rumors whenever anyone sees her coming to school with a girl, okay? I already want Yukari/MC fic.
So yeah, I'm a little disappointed, but it'll still be a good time. I recommend it to anyone who loves the franchise, but maybe not to people who haven't played Persona 3 in it's orginal form.

lassasrina has informed me they cut the animated cutscenes from both male and female protags. I stand corrected. So yeah--def play it on the PS2 if you can and haven't already. It really adds to the game.

What sort of really gets me is the fact that they change the wallpaper to pink. The part I like about this game the most is the atmosphere, the sort of slow, dark, half-asleep sort of feel, and I thought the blue motif did a lot to perpetuate that. But I am a mood-whore, so it could just be me, lolz.

(Also I am standing on the train platform in my Junpei hat. I don't even wear hats. But it's the easiest way to carry it.)

Yeah, the yellow really fucked the mood up for me, sometimes. It's like, "SCARY TV MURDERS!!!" Here's some BLINDING, CHEERFUL YELLOW!!!!!

I'm gonna try to do the thing we do in philosophy and do a Charitable Reading (or playing), and try not to get incensed about things like WHY ARE YOU TREATING HER DIFFERENT BECAUSE SHE'S A GIRL arrgh!!! I realize this is a different culture and stuff, and they're in high school and everything. So far it's been pretty good.
