I just heard from my dear friend [personal profile] mmefrankenstein that the official game preview is out for FFXIII-2 and not even a keyboard smash would be eloquent enough to describe how bummed I am.

Wherefor art thou Lightning )

Perhaps this is painting with a wide brush, but I am beginning to lose faith in a lot of the Japanese game companies I once loved so dearly. I am holding out hope for Atlus and next month's release of Catherine, but it's a game that's apparently all about sexuality, and honestly I'm not too optimistic after Persona 4's lol girls are for looking at weirdness.

However, it is good that in part my disillusionment comes from the fact that I've had some excellent examples to measure things against recently--so I think this is a perfect time for an Extended Dragon Age Squeefest. (EDAS?)

Since the beginning of April I have played Dragon Ages 1 and 2 and Mass Effects 1 and 2, and am currently in my second playthrough of DA-1.
I could go on and on about the lore and the world-building in Dragon Age, the character design and voice acting, but today I'm going to stick to gender/sexuality. In honor of the occasion, and to make myself feel better.

Cut for long post. No real spoilers )

...even though I just got back from spring break. I think I choked on an exam today, and I am having a lot of trouble focusing. It doesn't help that the weather has yet to warm up--we're supposed to get snow tomorrow, which almost never happens here this late into the year.

In other news, I've been playing the shit out of Dragon Age: Origins. I know I'm really into a game when I find myself thinking do I really have to go to class today? I should probably just stay home and play video games.. I haven't given into the urge, as of yet.

There's a frightenly enormous number of things to do in the game, sidequests all over the place, and I'm having a lot of fun romancing Alistair. He tends to like it when you're kind and honorable, which is good, since I always kind of default to that when I play a game with a lot of action/dialogue choices. I guess I just don't like to be mean.

I can honestly not believe that New Year's Eve is tomorrow. Things seemed to go really fast this year. It's been a rough Fall for me, and recently there's been a lot of family drama 'round these parts, so I'll be glad to see the new year.

I've been playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and omg, my AC obsession, here it is, back again. It's pretty much just more of the AC 2 with some added elements, and it's continuing the story line a whole lot more than I thought it would.

I just went to see Tron in 3D, and it was awesome. Normally I hate 3D--all that shit popping out at you, but this mostly just had depth to the picture. The CGI was really, really good, and everything was incredibly slick. And Olivia Wilde is just absolutely gorgeous.

ETA: Comments contain spoilers for AC: Brotherhood. Read at your own discretion!

Has everybody seen this?

Will I Be Pretty?

I mean, I'm a fairly big fan of slam poetry, but god. This brings me nearly to tears every time I watch it.

I just wish I'd been able to say all of this to my mother when I was younger.

The lovely [personal profile] mmefrankenstein has entered my sphere of influence, and is staying for a couple weeks--we've been making lots of baked goods and playing video games.
On Saturday we bought The Last Remnant and al;kjsdlaskdhjfal so awesome!.

Okay, so the loading times are sort of irritating, but downloading it to the 360 hard drive cuts down on that a lot. The story was sort of slow in getting started, and the dialogue was iffy for awhile, but we're about ten hours in and it's getting really intriguing. Besides, the battle system is awesome, and the graphics are gorgeous, and the bad coding sort of makes it even better--i.e. Rush pelvic thrusting at inappropriate moments.

And Rush and David! So adorable! I mean, I already ship them because of [personal profile] cypher's awesome fics, but they are practically canon! I mean, they like each other so much. And they keep having scenes that would usually be reserved for the hero and the heroine; meeting in the garden, going on walks together, David ordering his generals to protect Rush no matter what. And they can't seem to keep their hands off each other either.

Just...so glad I bought this game!
freezingrayne: (Vashyron and Zepher)
Guh. Resonance of Fate. Everything Vashyron says makes me want to write porn fic. Everything he says.

So much love for this game. So much. Especially now that I'm no longer Doin' it Wrong, thanks to [personal profile] cypher's expert advice.

Though I am plagued with not one, but two trips to the irritating Ice Canyon place, an aggresively large armed boss, and snowy elephants that keep pushing me out of the area with their thrashing. No fun.

In this chapter, you play a bit without one of the characters. I was thinking, say, I wonder if, now that they are minus the girl, will they stop making innuendos.
Nope. Still innuendos aplenty. Oh game, how I love you.

two down

Two finals down, two to go. I feel like I basically rocked Ancient History, and Italian went pretty well too. I'm glad, since I had to wake up at 5:45 in the morning to make it to my 8:00 am final in time. Just Free Will and Physics left to do.

After that summer will have officially started and I can ease on down south to visit the lovely [personal profile] mmefrankenstein. We'll be selling art at Animazement in Raleigh, which is gonna be awesome, especially since she's made us some rocking' costumes (I'm Yuri, she's Flynn). It's gonna be nice.

Got a mid-term and a quiz tomorrow, oh joy. *studystudystudy*

I'm a little worried about physics--I am just not very good at science. It totally does not hold my interest, but I've got to take it for the core requirements at UMD. So far I've mostly gotten away with taking stuff that interests me and that I'm pretty informed about, but oftentimes in physics I sit there feeling like a Complete Idiot which is...not fun.

THERMODYNAMICS WHY DO YOU TORTURE ME.

In other news...had a lot of fun doing [community profile] newgameplus. Being prompted for something really makes me write things I'd never have thought of on my own, which is always fun.

I'm currently playing Resonance of Fate. Omigod, so odd. Five hours in and there are just beginning to be stirrings of a plot, but it fills me with the sort of nonsensical joy that I haven't experienced since I played Shadow Hearts. The dynamic between the three main characters is awesome, and the battle system is original and fun. I heartily recommend it to those of you who are not put off by weirdness.

Off to study some more.

Katsucon!

Of to Katsucon to nerd out in the nerdiest way possible. If you're going, I'll see you there!

Washington DC is looking at near blizzard-like conditions.
My campus has been shut down, and it has just started to snow, and I have some bagels, so I am a happy little muffin.

I am looking at getting in some video game playin'. And [community profile] newgameplus fic writin'. And possibly also some homework. Can't forget about that. I am learning Italian, and I always feel really classy when I speak it. Just comes with the territory. Of course, it makes me think of Assassin's and hugging Leonardo da Vinci, but that is just a bonus.

On the subject of Leonardo da Vinci, has anyone heard about the attempt to exhume his body to find out if the Mona Lisa is really a cleverly disguised self portrait.
I would fund this SO HARD.
freezingrayne: (Altair)
I'm sorry I just have...OH MY GOD I HAVE NOT BEEN SO EXCITED OVER A GAME IN YEARS.

If you haven't played it, DO IT. Or play the first one first. Let no one say that Canadians can't make games.
Just...the perfect mix of sci-fi intrigue and corporations attempting to take over the world , combined with atmosphere and setting and cameos of historical figures. And...um...I used Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine and then he hugged me--My Life is Now Complete.
freezingrayne: (Altair)
Just read the latest update on the Trolls and just. I don't understand. Why spend so much of your time doing stuff to get on people's nerves. Why not, oh...eat some ice cream. Or hug a puppy, or hell, rob a bank, because that would at least yield some results for you.
Posing as concerned parent groups? I mean, really?

But thank you, thank you, thank you to Dreamwidth, for not conceding to their demands and fucking over your users like so many people have done (I'm looking at you, LJ) and sticking to your promises of free speech and unfiltered content. This makes me very happy, and gives me hope for the interweb yet!

And in other news. Assassin's Creed II. Eating my life. For reals. And um...the Drowning City by Amanda Downum is an excellent book with an incredible setting. I remember [personal profile] cypher recing it, so when I saw it in the bookstore I thought I'd give it a shot, and gosh am I glad I did!
freezingrayne: (Altair)
Yuletide was unbelievably awesome this year--so much good stuff!

Gifts I received:
We'll Go Down
Together
, Nightlife, Niko/Robin
This is a series I really, really love. This story is great, since it manages to give a moment to two characters who seem unlikely ever to have one, and not break them out of their characterization. And plus, the banter is great.

Clawing Our Way Forward, Gurren Lagann, Simon/Viral
This is gorgeous--making great use of Viral's teeth and claws and the things that make him other than human, along with his feeling of never truly belonging anywhere.

Grabby Hands, Gurren Lagann, Simon/Viral
A little Yuletide Madness piece. Funny and silly--Leeron watching Simon and Viral wrestle and seething through their clever facade.

Something else that is awesome:

Recoil and Grace, Sandman, some Dream/Lucifer, but mostly Gen
This is absolutely brilliant--the author captures the voice and the mood of the comic so brilliantly, along with the Characterization. I am also exceedingly weak to Lucifer being, for lack of a better word, humanized. I am re-reading the Sandman series currently, and this just hit the spot.

I will probably add to this post once I have had a chance to read more, which I undoubtedly will, since the next semester doesn't start for ANOTHER MONTH. Oh, excitement.
